World Intellectual Property Day: events with the German Patent and Trade Mark Office
Press release of 20 April 2016
Munich. Every year, the World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated on 26 April. The German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), together with the regional patent information centres, also contributes to this day nationwide in many cities all over Germany. 26 April was designated by WIPO, the UN's specialised agency for intellectual property, as World Intellectual Property Day 16 years ago with the aim of underlining the outstanding role and value of creativity and intellectual achievements. The annual international observance day helps continuously promote and raise awareness of topics and activities of industrial property protection.
The World Intellectual Property Day 2016 deals with current and important questions under the theme "Digital Creativity: Culture Reimagined". How can we make sure that artists and creators are properly paid for their work? And how should a global system look like to be able to protect intellectual property also in our digital universe?
Following the success of the past years, the DPMA again offers a joint national series of events celebrating the World Intellectual Property Day in cooperation with a number of patent information centres and other institutions.
With their tailor-made seminars and lectures at 13 different locations in Germany, the DPMA and its cooperation partners particularly address small and medium enterprises (SMEs), students as well as start-ups that would like to receive information about industrial property protection and enforcement of their intellectual property rights.
