DPMAprimo
a) Provision of DPMAprimo and creation of log files
- (1) Data processing
Every time our website is accessed, our system of the web host (ExLibris) automatically collects data and information of the computer system of the accessing computer. In this process, the following data will be collected:
- IP address
- Date and time of access
- Whether access was successful
- Search queries and results
The data will be stored in the log files. These data will not be stored together with other personal data of the user.
- (2) Legal basis and purpose of data processing
The legal basis for the temporary storage of data and log files is point (f) of Article 6(1). The purpose of data processing is to safeguard the legitimate interests of the web host.
The logged data are used solely for the purpose of ensuring the security of the system and optimising the web services on offer.
The data are stored in log files to ensure the functioning of the website. The data are not being analysed for marketing purposes.
- (3) Duration of storage
The data are stored for 30 days. The IP addresses are stored anonymously.
- (4) Option of objecting and of removal
The collection of data for the provision of the website and the storage of data in log files is absolutely indispensable for the operation of the website. Therefore, there is no option to object.

b) Use of cookies
- (1) Data processing
Cookies are used to store session preferences or configurations so that you can conduct searches in DPMAprimo and reserve or order titles.
Cookies are text files that are stored in the Internet browser or by the Internet browser on your computer system. When you visit a website, a cookie may be stored on your operating system. This cookie contains a characteristic character string that enables a unique identification of the browser when the website is revisited.
Services on our website used by third parties also use cookies. These are above all services for displaying book covers as well as providers whose contents can be accessed via the link “View Online” provided in DPMAprimo.
- (2) Legal basis and purpose of data processing
The legal basis for the processing of personal data using cookies is point (e) of Article 6(1), Article 6(3) of the General Data Protection Regulation in conjunction with Section 3 of the Federal Data Protection Act (Bundesdatenschutzgesetz).
DPMAprimo is the search engine of the DPMA library. The portal enables searches in printed and electronic literature of the DPMA's holdings and other licensed sources and thus serves, on the one hand, to carry out internal administrative activities and, on the other hand, to provide the public with access to searches for non-patent literature (NPL).
The purpose of using cookies is to buffer data entered and to store user configurations, which is necessary for conducting searches.
The user data collected by the cookies are not used to create user profiles.
- (3) Duration of storage, option of objecting and of removal
The cookies will be deleted as soon as you have finished your session and close your browser completely.

c) e-Shelf
- (1) Data processing
In DPMAprimo you can create an e-Shelf of your search results and send it to an e-mail address. When sending the e-Shelf, your e-mail address will be transmitted to the webhost (ExLibris).
By entering your e-mail address you consent to the use of your e-mail address for sending the e-Shelf. If you do not provide your e-mail address, the e-Shelf cannot be delivered to you.
No data will be passed on to third parties in connection with data processing for sending the e-Shelf. The data will be used exclusively for delivering the e-Shelf.
- (2) Legal basis and purpose of data processing
The legal basis for the processing of data for delivering the e-Shelf is point (a) of Article 6(1) of the General Data Protection Regulation.
The purpose of collecting your e-mail address is to deliver the e-Shelf.
- (3) Duration of storage, option of objecting and of removal
The e-mail address entered for sending the e-Shelf is stored for the duration of the session only and then deleted.
