"Yes, we feel the beat of IP and music" at the DPMA

Let's hear it, let's hear it ...
This year's World Intellectual Property Day on 26 April will be celebrated under the theme 'IP and music: Feel the beat of IP'. It was clear that we at the DPMA - like other national and regional IP offices - would celebrate this day. It was clear that we would pay tribute to the beat in a special way. Because we have something that other offices might envy: a brilliant group of musicians. In the DPMA Jazz Combo, four members of the office play cool jazz, combining IP and music in an entertaining way.
Jazz rhythms in Munich city centre
A short YouTube video captures the atmosphere at the DPMA information stand and the performance of the office's own jazz combo on 24 April 2025 in Munich:
While the jazz combo usually plays on a voluntary basis at internal official events, this time the general public was able to enjoy some special jazz rhythms to mark World Jazz Day. On 24 April, the band played in the centre of Munich at Karlsplatz. The concert was a good opportunity to promote the DPMA and provide information on industrial and intellectual property rights at an information stand.
The rhythm and the rights
Music enriches our lives. Intellectual property rights protect the creativity and innovation that enables us to enjoy music. The commercial exploitation of copyright is the foundation of the creative industries. Copyright protection is important for a vibrant and wide range of music. The relationship between our Office and music is therefore complex.
As 26 April falls on a Saturday during Easter this year, the band performed two days earlier. The YouTube link to a short film clip of the DPMA performance can be found in the box on the top right.
